On 9 October 2019, Turkey launched Operation "Operation Peace Spring" in northern Syria to drive Kurdish militia from its southern border and create a "safe zone" that would serve to relocate some of the 3.6 million Syrian refugees on its soil. In Gaziantep, Syrians make up 20% of the local population. Amid economic difficulties in Turkey and political tensions, some are worried about their future.
